One big reason that people are moving to the three Counties of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Monterey, is the weather.  The climate
is Mediterranean type weather.  Warm days, lots of sunshine, low humidity, and cool nights characterize the unbelievably comfortable weather.  Excellent air quality too is a big attractor.  On top of that there is very little auto traffic, friendly people, a slower pace of life, and many recreation options - starting with the Pacific Ocean.  Imagine owning your own California beachfront property.  There are unspoiled sandy beaches, ocean piers, spectacular cliffs, hiking trails, lighthouses and more.  You can surf, scuba dive, windsurf, kite board, or take a dune buggy ride on the sand dunes of Pismo Beach.  Pismo Beach Recreation Area is one of the few beaches in the country where you can drive your own car on the beach and camp.  Other parks nearby include Morro Dunes Natural Preserve, Montana de Oro State Park, Monarch Butterfly Park, Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, Pismo Dunes Natural Preserve, Pismo State Beach, and Guadalupe Nipomo Dunes Preserve.  Further north is the Hearst Castle area, the entry to world-renowned Big Sur.  Some of the cities include Cambria, Napenthe, Carmel and Carmel Valley.

 

Other water sports such as water skiing and fishing are close at hand with public access to areas such as Lake Nacimiento, San Antonio Lake, Margarita Lake, Lopez Lake, Lake  achuma Recreation Area, and Lake Casitas Recreation Area.  You can buy lakefront property with or without a home.  Two of the large gated lake housing communities where you can buy a house on a lake are Heritage Ranch and Oak Shores.   In Heritage you can also buy a condominium on the water.

 

Or you could own a ranch or farm or vacant land next to the Los Padres National Forest or BLM land which allows you almost unlimited horseback riding, camping, and hunting.  Because there is still a lot of open range land, you  an buy a horse ranch, a cattle ranch, or an Alpaca farm on any of the large acreage parcels of land for sale.

 

Local parks include Pinnacles National Monument and Carriso Plains National Monument where you will find some of the most affordable land around.  California Valley is growing now with an influx of solar power companies setting up new electric generating businesses here.  And green building technologies are thriving including straw bale homes, solar power, wind power, radiant floor heating, and Leeds  Certification for buildings.

 

The wine industry in the Central Coast is getting bigger every day.  Some have said that this will be the ‘Next Napa’ of the California wine producing regions.  The climate is perfect to grow both Rhone varietals, and well as Burgundy style wines.  You can buy land and plant your own vines, or buy a vineyard, or buy a winery.  You can find Paso Robles vineyards for sale, and also Templeton vineyards for sale. Other points of interest on the Central Coast that might interest you include 10 of the 21 California Missions.  Paso Robles hosts the California Mid-State Fair, many equine events, rodeos, and much more.  On the Central Coast you can find one of only three locations in the country with wild condors.  Or you can watch elephant seals on the beach, eagles in the air, and whales in the ocean.  Local schools are excellent.  The colleges include California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and also Cuesta Community College in both San Luis
Obispo and also Paso Robles.

 

Santa Barbara is famous for its beaches and climate, as well as golf, spas, shopping and restaurants. Santa Ynez is a beautiful area made popular recently by the wine movie Sideways, and also the TV show The Batchelor, with Andrew Firestone of the Firestone Winery.  Ojai is another lovely community, home to many movie stars wanting to be close to Los Angles yet in beautiful, pristine location.  Ventura at the lower boundary of the Central Coast acts as a buffer to Los Angles.  The town of  Parkfield has a yearly rodeo, and is near the new James Dean memorial. Military bases include Fort Hunter Liggett and Camp Roberts - hunting, camping and fishing is allowed.
